New Course: Gain Instant Feedback to Diagnose and Challenge Learning

About the course

This course is about being able to use assessment for learning as an ongoing tool to gain insight into the pupils’ understanding. It’s comprised of 10 different techniques that can be easily slotted into any lesson for any year group to make learning collaborative, engaging and most importantly visible. It uses very simple structures to support instant diagnosis where misconceptions or lack of experience means the learning is not pitched accurately and lesson time is lost. For children who are demonstrating a deep understanding these structures enable the teacher to instantly challenge the learning further. No more lesson observation criticising progress of pupils or lack of challenge again!

About the trainer

The course has been developed and delivered by Julie Watson who having delivered the initial training when ‘Inside the Black Box’ emerged in the early noughties at local authority level, now trains on this subject often under different titles such as ‘Refocusing on Assessment for Learning’, training TA’s to use these pedagogies in response to the EEF Guidance Report or as a means of raising standards in schools that are struggling to pitch and challenge learning.

This is a great strategy for developing vocabulary and topic understanding.  It’s a very simple game where we use topic specific vocabulary to generate pair led discussion.  Julie also introduces the use of the “Google pile” as an add on this game.
